Judging Opportunity: PSB Sigma Xi Undergraduate Conference

The 32nd Annual Penn State Behrend-Sigma Xi Undergraduate Student Research and Creative Accomplishment Conference invites participation as a volunteer session chair and/or a judge for oral or poster presentations.

The conference will be held in-person on April 20, 2024 at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College.

Note: If you will be sending research students to present at the conference, then there is an expectation that you will assist the conference by volunteering to be a session chair or judge for the conference.  Having your own research students present at the conference does not preclude you from being a session chair or judge at the conference because we can assign your judging in such a way that you would not judge your own research students.

Responsibilities for available roles are described below.

Session Chair for Oral Presentations:

  1. Confirm judges to serve in your oral session; a list of potential judges will be provided to you
  2. Serve as the moderator during your session; may also need to serve as a judge for your session
  3. Lead a discussion to select the top presentations to receive awards from your session; provide the results to the Organizing Team

Session Chair of Poster Presentations:

  1. Confirm judges to serve in your poster session; a list of potential judges will be provided to you
  2. Create the poster judging matrices for your poster session using a provided template
  3. You will also serve as a judge in your session on the day of the conference

 Judge for Oral Presentations:

  1. Observe and evaluate oral presentations within a particular session related to your area(s) of expertise
  2. Provide student presenters with written feedback on their presentation
  3. Work with the Session Chair to identify the top presentations in your session

Judge for Poster Presentations:

  1. Observe and evaluate poster presentations within a particular session related to your area(s) of expertise
  2. Evaluate student presenters using a provided rubric and provide student presenters with written feedback on their poster presentation

Interested faculty can complete the online Session Chair and Judges Registration form using the following link: https://pennstate.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_6fMsrzmC4w36kJw.

The form will ask you to identify your discipline so session responsibilities can be aligned with your area(s) of expertise. When completing the online form, please select all roles you would be willing to serve.

The deadline to register online as a session chair or judge is February 16, 2024.

Session Chairs will be notified and receive abstracts for their session by March 1, 2024.
